Christianity in US continues to decline

https://www.pewforum.org/2019/10/17/in-u-s-decline-of-christianity-continues-at-rapid-pace/

The trend continues. Not surprisingly, millennials are leading the way...most of the older generations, including my own, are still majority Christian.

"More than eight-in-ten members of the Silent Generation (those born between 1928 and 1945) describe themselves as Christians (84%), as do three-quarters of Baby Boomers (76%). In stark contrast, only half of Millennials (49%) describe themselves as Christians; four-in-ten are religious “nones,” and one-in-ten Millennials identify with non-Christian faiths."

The end may be coming faster than I ever thought possible. Growing up, I certainly never would have thought I'd see things come this far. Of course, growing up, I was part of the problem, so I likely would have been in denial, anyway.

It does raise some interesting questions, though. While I do think it's an overall good thing, this is a huge shift in culture in a relatively short period of time... Christianity took centuries to establish itself and we are seeing a rapid decline happen in only a few decades. How is this going to affect our society as a whole? We may certainly see a lot of progress in the right direction in some areas, but it still leaves a lot of question marks.

American Christians, in particular, really seem to love the role of oppressed underdog. They're right there with the overall victim culture we have going on right now in this country. So what happens when they actually are the minority? When they really can't count on being able to outvote the rest of us in elections?

It should be interesting, however it goes down.

  1. I think most Christian's would be serial killers if they did not have religion
to tamp down those urges. (Thoughts)
Maybe religion does have a purpose.

  2. I'm really not sure that would be the case. I think it's more likely that THEY think that everyone ELSE would become the serial killers. I do think religion has some utility for some people, though, yes. If it didn't, we would have discarded the whole thing as we evolved and became human.
